Going loco for EL LOCO!

When I think of Surry Hills I think Tacos, chilli, coronas' and frozen Margarita's!! Why you may ask? 'We are not in Mexico' you may say! That is correct my friend, but a visit to El Loco on Forveaux Street will make you think you've just hopped off a plane and landed yourself in the heart of Mexico!

Connected to the Excelsior Hotel, this blink-and-you-will-miss-it Mexican Cantina get's a big thumbs up for its design and use of colour. The place is decked out in colourful Mexican motifs and large cacti pots placed out the front.

Once you walk inside you really are transferred to a place like no other. There are communal tables filled with help-yourself Chilli sauce, loud music coming from a DJ booth in the corner, a large kitchen where you can watch the chef's at work and a funky bar with quite possibly the hottest bar peeps ever!!

While the food won't rock your socks off, the experience and the cheap, cheap price will!

The Taco's are $5 each and filled to the brim with tasty toppings such as chicken with sweet corn salsa, spit roast pork with pineapple salsa, and prawn with salsa verde.

However, you really can't go past the El Loco Hotdog for $9.. a bargain for how full you will feel!

Seriously, you will struggle to walk after this giant feed. This grilled pork frankfurt on a soft bun with pickled jalepenos, mayonaise and cheese will have you reaching for your frozen margarita as it sure does come with a spicy kick, but just like anything deliciously artery clogging, you will find yourself going back for more.

I find it is best consumed at around 2am after a bender of a night. Oh yes, did I mention that El Loco stays open until 3am Thursday - Saturday. Perfect for a post drinks, pre hangover feed.

If that isn't enough for you, El Loco is run by the Merivale Group so you will often see the swoon-worthy Justin Hemmes gracing this establishment.

So grab your closest amigos and salsa on down to El Loco for a quick and cheap trip to Mexico!

Ole!
