Yesterday afternoon after a long (and slightly boozy) lunch, my friends and I found ourselves in need of a cocktail, so off we went to Forveaux Street to check out the rustically cool 'Button Bar' hidden behind a red doorway that could easily be missed.
This bar is something else! You open the door to retro tunes that take you back to the 'flapper days' when men wore suits and women strapped themselves into tight corsets. The room looks like it's been taken straight from a film set. It is a cross between a pirate ship and a saloon bar. You may think this is quite eclectic but it really does work. It's quirky, fun and the cocktails are tasty to say the least!
The music was constantly shazam'd by my drinking companions with the speaker blaring tunes from the rock'n'roll 1970's and then mixing it up with some honky tonk 1930's.
From personal recommendation from my bestie, Bronte, our first order was for a round of 'Box of Rain' cocktails which is best described as a pina colada on speed! It is the perfect drink for a hot summers day, made up of fresh coconut juice taken straight from the fruit itself, mixed with white rum. While it may have looked a little simple, served in a plain looking stein, it was delish!
The second order for the day was the Singapore Sling, which thankfully looked much nicer, dressed with a dark cherry and served in a tall, thin glass. It tastes like a mix between sherbet and sour cherry which leaves a tangy but sweet after taste.
The seating is comfy with a choice between cushioned leather booths or a communal saloon-like wooden table with stools. As an added bonus the lighting is kept dim with lit candles and low lit light shades so it would be the perfect place for a first date where you can relax and ease into a romantic mood!
The cocktails range between $9.50 to $19.50 with something for everyone. However if cocktails aren't your scene, they also have a range of wines, whisky's and ciders to choose from as well. They also provide small bowls of pistachio nuts to munch on.
If you are looking for a fun bar with a quirky twist this is the place for you!
